100th Bombardment Group – Thorpe Abbotts, England

An all too typical scene, as an exhausted 100th Bomb Group combat crew returns to base at Thorpe Abbotts from yet another harrowing mission over Fortress Europe. The strain and stress of heavy action can be seen in their faces as they walk away from their crippled B-17 Flying Fortress. They were one of the lucky crews to make it back home this day. For tomorrow, it will be yet another mission, to a new target, in a new aircraft.
Every day during the air war campaign from 1942-45 this was a common scene not only at Thorpe Abbotts, but at dozens of other Eighth Air Force airfields across East Anglia.
This drawing is a tribute to the brave airmen and the dedicated ground crews of the 100th Bomb Group that so valiantly served to protect the liberty and freedom of our Nation.

This special drawing was produced by world-renown aviation artist, Gil Cohen, as a tribute to the courage, bravery and endeavor of the men of the 100th Bomb Group during World War II.
The original drawing has been reproduced as a limited edition print that will be exclusively offered only to the members of the 100th Bomb Group Foundation. The print edition is limited to 100 copies and was premiered at the 2017 Reunion in Washington D.C. from October 19th – 22nd.
This exclusive offer is a fundraising effort for the 100th Bomb Group Foundation. All profits from the sale of the print edition will go directly to the 100th Bomb Group Foundation.
